On behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of California of the United States, I want to congratulate the following students on placing in the 2010 National Young American Creative Patriotic Art Competition.

I am very proud to announce the winners of the Department of California Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Young American Creative Patriotic Art Competition are:

·         First Place Winner $500.00: Hannah Oh, submitted by District 6 Auxiliary 2070.  Hannah also won sixth place on the National lever, receiving $500.00 and her art work will be displayed at the National Convention.

      ·         Second Place Winner $300.00: William Avalos, submitted by District 17 Auxiliary 2003.

       ·         Third Place Winner $200.00 Taylor Viramontes, submitted by District 2 Auxiliary 3173

       ·         Honor Mention for Participant $100.00: Megan Vorst, District 5 Auxiliary 11087.

 We would like to hold on to your entry until June 22, 2010, so that we can display the four winning entries at our State Convention in Sacramento, California. After the convention, we will immediately return the art directly to you.

 A total of 45 entries were judged in the National competition and the 2008-2009 National Winners are: 1st place – Mariah Jorgensen, Wisconsin; 2nd place – Zackary Petot, Missouri; 3rd place – Kaylyn Bancroft, District of Columbia;  4th place – Deanna Rouse, Washington; 5th place – Natalie Lowe, Utah; 6th place – Hanna Oh, California; 7th place – Maggie Creech, Alabama; 8th place – Tawni Ernsberger, Ohio.

 The winner of the Department of California Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Junior Girls Scholarship winner was: 

  • First Place Winner $100.00: Deanna Matlock, District 5 Auxiliary 11087.  Deanna received $100.00 from National as a participant in the national competition. This year’s National Scholarship winner is: First Place - Catlin Pauley of Kenton, Ohio $7,500.00.  (There was only a first Place winner this year.

Again, congratulations to all of you for doing an outstanding job and I look forward to hearing from you again next year.  Also thank you to the Districts and Auxiliaries for your participation and comments to these programs.
