Sisters, This article will be about the Young American Patriotic Art Program. The Young American Creative Patriotic Art Program was established by the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in 1978 to give recognition and reward high school students for expressing their patriotism through visual art. This scholarship program can provide much needed money for college. Art containing patriotism will fill the hearts of all who see it. The time is now to promote this program even more than ever. Young Americans need funds for college. This contest is for students in grades 9-12 and eligible home-schooled. Highlights include: Be sure students are instructed to follow the Federal flag Code. There will be Eight (8) scholarships awarded on the national level. First place is $10,000.00, plaque, airfare and lodging to the National Convention and first, second and third is as follows: $5,000,place artwork will appear in the national magazine and Web site. Second – Eighth Place $2,500, $1,500, $500, $500, $500, $500, $500. Department awards range from $100.00 to $500.00 for the top three winners. Contest Rules Highlights: (1) Must be on paper or canvas. (2) Follow the Federal Flag code. (3) Digital art on paper or canvas. (4) Do not frame. (5) Submit canvas on stretcher frames. (6) Others matted on white only. (7) No smaller then 8”x10”. (8) No larger than 18”x24”. (9) Not including mat. (10) Complete form, must be sponsored by LA-VFW or foreign based Auxiliary or Post. (11) Completed current school year. (12) Teacher’s signature. (13) Water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen and ink may be used. Also on the Department www.lavfwca.org website under Youth Activities you will find complete information about the Patriotic Art Program and much more. Remember the New Patriotic Art Poster size (8.5x11 and 11x14 only.) Order your Young American Patriotic Art brochures from the National Supply Department NOW, they contain contest rules, entry forms, and “National amounts”. Contact your local schools and introduce this program to the art teachers and counselors, also encourage home-schooled students through publicity about our programs. Place the brochures at your churches, libraries, and the Girls and Boys Clubs etc. Brochures and entry forms are also available on our Web-site under “Documents & Brochures” at www.ladiesauxvfw.org. Students Deadline March 31, 2010 – Participants must submit signed entries to the Ladies Auxiliary Youth Activities Chairman by this date. First-place winners from each District will be sent to Department Chairman for judging after the above date. District Judging: District winners must meet the Department deadline for judging. District judging cannot take place before April 1, 2011. Department Deadline April 15, 2011 – District entries must be received by the Department Youth Activities Chairman by the above date. National Deadline May 5, 2011 – Each Department may enter its first-place winning art in the national contest. Entries must be received at National Headquarters by the above date. Awards to Auxiliaries are: · A Citation to each Auxiliary with 100% or more. · Auxiliary with the Best Promotion of this Program will receive the Past Department President Lavelle Marion, Young American Patriotic Art Award. I have completed the First 2010 issues of the Department of California Youth Activities Bulletin. It contains information on the programs, photos from the convention and more. They will be mailed to the District President and Department Youth Activities Chairmen to share with their Auxiliaries. Due Dates to keep in mind: Junior Girls, ongoing; Junior Girls Scholarship March 11, 2011; Girl Scout Awards citations on going; Youth Groups Supporting Our Military March 15, 2011 and reports every month.
